Wed, 16 September 2009 Panel Description from the Convention Program:
Panel #3 "From Action to the Academy: The Power of Comics Scholarship" 4:00-4:45
Matt Smith-Speaker
While other visual media like film and television have found acceptance in college curricula around the country, comics continue to struggle to find legitimacy in the academy. Matthew Smith teaches Comic Books as Culture at Wittenberg University and explains why comics have such a difficult time finding acceptance and how pioneering researchers have made progress in promoting the serious study of comics as an art form. Dr. Smith is also co-author of the first college textbook for comics art studies, The Power of Comics: History, Form, & Culture. Comments[0] |
